vs netflix wk 1 – the quick and the dead

posted January 13th by phil

We watched the Quick and the Dead and then discussed it for A Very Serious Conversation colon Real Talk with an ‘E’ instead of an ‘A’ parentheses Jake and Phil vs  netflix wk1.

Please listen and comment or else we did it for naught.

Week 2′s movie will be Brewster’s Millions starring Richard Pryor.  Like all the movies we’ll be watching in this series, it’s on netflix’s “watch instantly”.  We haven’t picked out all the movies we’ll be watching so as always suggestions are welcome but mostly we want movies that we never got around to seeing before.

note: I was wrong, Bruce Campbell’s cameo was cut from the movie.  In the scene, he accosts the bartender’s daughter. The scene was only filmed to placate the actor who played the bartender.  Also although the movie has the same title as several other movies and a Louis L’amour it’s unrelated.

I want to remake Brewster’s Millions. I will set it in Northern Mexico, and it will be the story of the illegitimate offspring of a cartel kingpin. Raised in San Diego, Victor discovers that in order to inherit his ‘dead’ father’s empire he must spend two weeks offing rivals and doing blow. None of the blow can be sold – it must be used – and the rivals cannot be killed by anyone but him. I’m going to call it… wait for it…

    Beector’s Beelions.

    that is all.

Hi, I watched tQ&tD last weekend so I could listen to the podcast and then comment.

    - Please speak closer to the mic, both of you. Like $100k prize. That’s $2,286,000 in 2011 money

Thanks for stepping up and doing your homework Peter. I regret forgetting about “the Unforgiven” since it set the standard for Westerns for years and featured Gene Hackman as the evil ruler of a town.

As for the technical stuff, I think we need two mics or to change our seating arrangement since I talk louder than Jake does. I edit and put these up the Netflix ones the same evening they’re recorded with very minimal editing.

What did you think of the movie? Was it tough to enjoy a pre-Deadwood post-Young Guns Western or were you cool with it?
