Mercier Kilo TT-Stripper Edition

posted April 26th by dav

3qToday I would like to give a short review of my bike, a Mercier Kilo TT Stripper. I bought this track bike from bikes direct last fall for the low price of $379 (no tax or shipping).  For this price you would expect to get an entry level bicycle however I found nothing entry level about it. The frame is made of super lightweight Tapered Reynolds 520 Cromoly tubes, and the components are decent enough to have you riding for at least a year or two with out needing to upgrade.  Having ridden this bike for about six months now I couldn’t be happier with my decision to buy this particular bike online.

What kind of bike do you have?  Do you love it?

do the right thing for once and share this (on facebook) or

bikesdirect.com is a great place to get a well priced bike. I bought my first road bike there and it was solid came with good components and really got me into riding.

my current and for the first time in a long to only bike is a Bianchi Cross bike that i converted to single speed for city riding. I just moved to NY and decided to ditch the gears since it is so flat. It was a good choice as I spent all day Saturday riding around Brooklyn.

My baby is a classic motobecane. She’s lovely. Her name is Virginie.
She does weigh more than I’d like, but Phil keeps reminding me about SIR (STEEL IS REAL, yo!)
She is pouting in my storage room since she needs new griptape and because I’ve been denying her sunshine while my foot is sprained.

I have an 80s era pinnarello that was fixed up by a dude with some salvaged, more modern, campy record stuff. I really love it but it kind of sucks on the local cobble stones. I have an old ddr single speed, reverse brake, bike that I bought at the flea market for 40 €. I have ridden all over town on that thing but kind of hate it. It currently has a flat tire so I have been riding on my wife’s “klapprader” that looks something like this: http://www.klapprad.de/images/Faltrad24-1ADO.jpg

I am currently looking for something to replace the shitty cannondale that I used to have for riding around town on. Now that they are sold at hot topic or whatever I think it is probably a good time to get on board the fixed gear train.

I have a steel custom frame with campy parts & a carbon fork. I’ve ridden it everywhere for 8 years. I love it but I think it’s a bit too small for me.

i have a 70′s italian benotto that is painted blue candy flake that i’m putting together as a 10 speed. it, also, may be too small for me.

i’m currently riding a jc higgins cruiser and it’s treating me fine (but not the guy i crashed into a wall while he was riding on my handle bars).

I have a Jamis Commuter that I got at the local stolen bike store. It is the 5th bike I have owned since moving to Sacramento and I am loving that it has lasted for 2.5 months or so already. I like it because it was under $150 and is actually the first bike I have found that is large enough for me. I can really ‘get on it’ or ‘book’ as we used to say in the ’70s.

My favorite part is the OnGuard ‘Beast’ chain/lock that keeps us safe. These bastards have lazy little saw marks on them from surviving in my ‘hood. Hah! Steal someone else’s bike jerkfaces!
