I’ve been on a documentary kick lately, thanks to Netflix. Over the weekend I watched Girl 27. It’s about Patricia Douglas, who was a dancer at MGM in the 30′s. She was raped at an MGM stag party by a high power executive who was never even charged for this crime. The documentary gives you a different look at MGM. Usually when I watch anything about those days, actors reminisce happily about their lives on the MGM set. This documentary shows you what it may have been like if you were a chorus girl in one of the many musicals produced in that era.
The documentary is very interesting and quite sad. Patricia Douglas was never able to recover emotionally from such a traumatic event. It affected her for the rest of her life. Even her daughter suffered because of what one man did to a young girl one night so long ago. You can stream this on Netflix and watch it instantly which makes it pretty painless to access. I would definitely recommend it. I rate it

pretty depressing stuff though so don’t say you weren’t warned.

Oh man, I saw this doc too. Holy shit, it’s really, really upsetting, as is the Vanity Fair article Phil posted.
I’m watching Man On Wire later tonight.

This subject is very intriguing, but I’ve been in a good mood lately and it seems like it will really be a buzz kill. But it sounds like I need to watch this doc, so I’ll have to save it for one of the days I am really feeling the true crime stories vibe.

You should have followed it up by watching Avatar: the Last Airbender, that would cleanse your palate.

That is an excellent idea.
