I just watched ‘Mr. Smith Goes to Washington’ a couple days ago. It’s unadulterated sentimental Capra and it’s awesome. I could do a better job than Newsom or Feinstein, too.

Heypal, Mr Smith is my favorite frank capra movie. I like the part where Claude Rains can’t take any more and confesses. Actually the whole filibuster scene is the best where Jimmy Stewart is unshaven.

Watching this movie should be required in school. I like “it’s wonderful life” also but MSGTW is just incredible. Are people too cynical for something like this nowadays? I think the closest thing there’s been to a Frank Capra movie in my lifetime is something like Trading Places where the villain at the end is sodomized by a gorilla, so it’s just a different time.

Phil, I don’t think people today are inherently more cynical than they were when Capra was making films, but the medium has evolved into something different. For one thing, congress was so upset with Capra for making Mr. Smith (at a time when we were facing a growing menace from the east) that they villified it and shortly after passed legislation that banned the studios from owning theaters. This was a pre-war film- the enemy was within our borders, with an American accent. Today, most of the (American) films that criticize our nation are badly done by that fat idiot who claims to make ‘documentaries.’ I could do his job better than him, that’s for sure. And someone should be doing something more similar to Mr. Smith, it’s just as topical now as it was then.

Off point, but Phil, you should see Jimmy Stewart’s stunning turn in Philadelphia Story. I would like to say that I could play a replacement drunk better than he, but I don’t think I’m that good at playing drunk even when I am very drunk and not playing.
As for replacing someone, I think I would kick ass at being TiffanyMcFarland a few years ago, because I know alot more now, and would have been much more understanding.
I could also have replaced Jennifer Anniston in anything she has ever acted, and most of the government workers in California.

Yeah he is good in that but he doesn’t get the girl & It was kind of slow paced also but maybe I just have a short attention span.
