I would do it for $100. I’d do it for free if I could stop the day the imported rum I bought runs out, which will probably be Nov 1st. Alcohol is a poison and I never in my life have ever woken up and wished that I had drank one more drink the night before. It doesn’t make me happier but I do it from time to time anyways. If I had a good excuse to stop drinking completely I would.

I think my price would be around $500. I’m not super into drinking these days, but it seems like something as low as $100 wouldn’t be worth an entire year of refusing to have a drink every so often.

I think it would be around $5000. Not that I drink a lot, but I just don’t see the point…….it’s not worth my time for a YEAR for just a hundy. I go out to enough social events with a glass of wine here and there that I would feel slightly alienated and to do that for an entire year? It would probably have to be enough money to pay a major bill off or something.

$100 seems like a pretty reasonable deal. I probably have less than a 6 pack in a year so it wouldn’t really be much of a hassle.

I’d do it for free. But in reality – I would still be reaping the rewards of weight loss, clearer, brighter skin and better sleep* – AND I’d be saving money on the alcohol I wasn’t buying.
Anyway , a large % of the population does this all of the time (or should be doing this) – it’s called carrying a child. It can’t be that hard if Courtney Love [presumably] did it.
*Obviously, these things can be gained even if you do imbibe from time-to-time, but only in moderation…which is a whole other ball of wax.

But Beth those moms don’t quit drinking for a year. They get hammered the night they are impregnated obviously and then they celebrate the baby’s birth 9 months later by doing tequila shots in the hospital.

Beth, it was probably easy because she has the uncanny ability to store gallons of alcohol in her blood stream for more than a year. Kind of like mammals living in the cold weather relying on stored fat.

Ugh! the thought of drinking tequila in a hospital makes me want to vom.

@Beth: I’ll take you up on your offer. Starting today, no drinking for you for a year.
Right?

I said I would do it for free because money wouldn’t be a motivator for me. I never said I was going to do it, however.

But you must have a price for agreeing to do it, starting today. Would $500 make you agree? $1000? $5000? $10,000? What’s your price?
btw, @Phil: I’ll take you up on the $100.

I want to negotiate further. I bought this fancy rum and I don’t want it to sit in my kitchen taking up space for a year.

Yeah, I don’t really believe your answer either, Phil.

To be honest, it would have to be a lot of money… getting drunk is fun. i like my weekends. I love a good glass of wine with dinner…
maybe @ $2,000,000 after taxes would do it.

it would probably have to be around $5,000 for me to take it seriously and not drink. i used to get drunk about twice a day but not so much anymore.

@ jake – oh ok…now I see the
silly semanticsrules we are playing with here.@jason that is a very good point…
IF you were making me name a price [even though I don't want to] it would have to be a substantial amount of money for me to actually follow through with it for a year.
$500 wouldn’t be a large enough sum to “make” me do anything I don’t really feel like doing – unless I have resolved to follow through with the plan for other reasons (such as I stated previously).
In which case any amount would be fine with me…free money is free money.

I would say about $50,000. Any number below that and I would find a way to make the extra money and keep drinking.

Considering that I already wasted 7 years of my drinking life, I don’t think any amount of money would really be worth it.
What am I supposed to drink when I eat? Soda? Am I a little kid?
Exploring food and drink has been pleasant for me these past years.

$1,000. Which seems low given how much I like beer. I could really care less about getting pissed, but I really enjoy reviewing beer and going out every so often with my friends and drinking. I’m old, so hangovers are a bitch. I could convince myself to give it up for a grand, but really not much less

I overheard a guy at a coffee shop talking about how her friend drinks a 6 pack every morning, for a while now. That day he was giving her a ride he didn’t have beer, and wasn’t acting like himself and driving bad. She got out and got him some beer and after he drank it he was back to normal. haha
Anyways, I’m not even legally allowed to drink but of course I do. I’m not super into it, and honestly don’t enjoy the taste, even if it’s really good wine or beer. But I would still take 5k or more if I’m forced not to do it, mainly because I know I’ll be able to resist and might as well get some money in return. ha

It would have to be enough cash to buy me piles of drugs..to compensate for my year of sobriety

I thought this would be easy, but then I thought “no sangria” so $1000.
