No, it would be a waste of money, time and resources.

No. Why single out welfare recipients. . . if it’s based on receiving government assistance then all employees of Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, American Express, General Motors and all other corporate bailout recipients etc. etc. etc. should be tested. Damn, why not add any government employee to that list too. . . . and medicare recipients. . .

I agree. If I get a tax break because I donated money to charity, should that be at risk because I like to do angel dust and amyl nitrate poppers on the weekends?

Welfare is either good for society or bad for society and reasonable people can disagree on that. Tying the money to drug tests is frivolous either way.

There needs to be some sort of parenting test to discern that the parents are good parents.

But to the other points on here: Aren’t most people on the gov. payroll drug tested? Why is this any different?

I am for more relaxed drug laws (I think anyway, im a little wishy-washy on this subject) but there is something a little icky about paying money to further the drug habits of someone with kids.

At any rate all of this is mute because welfare is shitty and the former lax system is to blame for much in my family’s lives. I am glad they tightened it up so you can’t really live on it without being miserable.

What they should have is a federal voucher system to pay for childcare for working mothers.

    Latchkey kids OVER ALL!

That’s a good idea Joe. Even though I was raised by by my mom and she always worked, there was never any latchkey involved. Our doors were rarely locked. I hope no kidnappers with time machines read this and go back in time to get me now.

if we decriminalized drugs and created government sponsored facilities for rehabilitation where addicts could get their fix, we wouldn’t need drug testing because we would know who’s using. and then instead of kicking them off of welfare we could continue to treat them! what a concept!

You must log in to comment. I tried it the other way and had to erase 1,000 ads for viagra and mortgages one by one. Register here, it takes less than ten seconds.
