When you are thoughtful and accept the universal magnitude of your kill.

Bonus: thoughtless action is always unethical.

People are animals. Same rules exactly.

I agree with the threat of danger. It would have to be a life-saving kill for me to not feel badly about it.

But I often kill spiders, even though I am afraid of them. When it comes to spiders, and most insects, the gloves are off. Especially if there is a possibility of it biting me when I am not looking. I can’t stand insect bites/stings.

What about mice? Usually when I live somewhere that mice appear I will set out mouse traps cause I figure they are threatening my health and humane traps don’t work.

I will kill an animal if I want to eat it. Also if it looks at me funny, I will kill it.

When you are defending your life or they are unable to be healed and suffering.

Bonus: a)pretty much any other time
    -b)same answer applies.
I actually like most animals more than most people, so I may be more likely to bend the rules.

Killing people/animals == ethical. At least it is to the people/animals you are killing. For people it is the person’s family/loved ones you are being unethical to by killing them. The same rules apply if you kill someone’s pet or the spouse of one of those “mate for life” birds or something.

Torturing people/animals == unethical always which is my main argument against eating meat and why I am weening myself off of eggs that aren’t hella hippy and twice as expensive as normal eggs.

    Quality not quantity.

I guess it’s never ethical to kill anything. So it’s simply time for you guys to get over it and accept the fact that god doesn’t care if the chikcen dies in an accident or if you killed it. It’s nothing to him. |You’re wasting your time. There are no such things as sins or eternal damnation. If something is not meant to be you’ll get “punished” her on earth…like eating meat may lead to colon cancer or gay sex simply resulting in you not procreating. If nothing else happens, that means God is cool with it. So go and fuck each other in the asses and eat as much dead meat as you can get your hands on… No one cares… nature will take care of you.

I think in either case it’s only ethical if you’re being seriously threatened, or if another person is being seriously threatened. And I guess I must include if an animal you care about is being seriously threatened.

@Joe: Are you saying that it’s ethical to kill a person, from their point of view, because after they’re dead they aren’t capable of caring? I don’t get it.

@Stefan: “Ethical” doesn’t have to involve God or any kind of outside super-judge. You don’t have to believe in God to have utmost respect for life. It’s the one thing that connects us, that makes us “us”. It’s beyond amazing that we exist at all, and we should each feel undying gratitude towards the series of events that put us here, even if there’s no one “out there” to acknowledge our gratitude. That The Universe couldn’t give a shit what happens to us is irrelevant. That we give a shit (or don’t give a shit) what happens to one another does matter.

Anyone who values their own life should value all other life equally. If they don’t respect their own life, then it’s ok by me if they take it as long as they don’t cause suffering for others in the process.
