Posting the below picture and then this question, Peter? Fishing for “Deadwood”, are we? In any case, I agree with the sentiment.

Also, I guess I’ll be the first (bitches!) to say it was a serious blow to the posterity of our culture*– dare I say to the progress of human civilization– that Arrested Development was cancelled after just three seasons.

*Not to be confused with the posterior of our culture, epitomized (and I know this is an easy target) by American Idol. And there you have my answer to the bonus question.

This is where I would whine about shows in Britain which I wish would have gone on forever, but I understand that its better to go out on a high, so I forgive the mean-british-broadcasting-executives who tease me with a show for three years only to end it. I wish American TV execs would get the idea and not just beat something to death.
Two that I have NO idea how they lasted so long: Gilmore Girls and Party of Five.

Too soon: “Firefly” – Joss Whedon’s masterpiece, IMO.

Too long: Too many to mention, but a few come to mind -

    “Everybody Loves Raymond”
    “American Idol”
    “Survivor”
    “Two and a Half Men”
“The Simpsons” <- Jumped the shark YEARS ago, but I still love it!

“Firefly” is what prompted this question. I’ve been watching it via Netflix. It’s a really good show; quite charming and well written. When “Firefly” first aired, I saw the train robbery episode and couldn’t handle the “Space as Wild West” conceit. But after seeing a few episodes and learning the backstory, it really made sense.

    TV needs more SciFi.

    Exactly what Dannikins said.

With the addition of Scrubs to the bonus.

Oh yeah, “Freaks & Geeks” is one of the best shows ever that didn’t make it. I was genuinely sad after getting to know the characters over 16 episodes and having to mail back the last Netflix disc. Hooray for Netflix.

Its hard not to just talk about shows based on whether you liked them…

    Too Soon:
Clearly: “Blade”, the Series! Got cancelled after its 1st season. Man, it was great!
“Parker Lewis Can’t Lose”; only 3 seasons; loved it.
“Man from Atlantis” with Patrick Duffy. Just one season as well…

    Too Long:
Married with Children (liked it, but they didnt know what to do at the end)

Also, I liked Party of Five, Tiffany. It was good. Also dont think Simpsons jumped anything.

Chappelle Show, although I think it was probably causing the guy physical pain to produce his show.

BONUS – Everything that’s successful at all on TV gets beaten into the ground eventually. It’s like trying to squeeze every last bit of juice out of a lime. A good example would be Magnum, which I loved but really fell off in quality towards the end.

I totally agree with phil about chapelle show… had dave not gone crazy there could have easily been another 2 or 3 seasons…

    Too long:
    Simpsons..
    uhm…

Thats all i got really… i watch only a few select shows… so,thats all i have to say.

Firefly. Hands down. (and Pete- its because Fox aired them out of order. No one knew what was happening, they didn’t show you the back story)
    Dresden.
    Arrested Development.
    Carnivale.
    Drive.

Too long is obvious with American Idol. Some of the L&O franchises. And I think CSI has run its course too.

I loved Sledgehammer! My cousin and I were really upset when it got canceled. I also want to add The Critic.

I saw a commercial for ER the other day and couldn’t even believe it was still on.
