The picture is a bit small, but there are more here. This is Voytek, the soldier bear. He was being raised by a kid in Iran, where Polish soldiers were on maneuvers during World War II. The soldiers bought him off the kid and taught him to drink beer and smoke. They even trained him to carry heavy munitions. When the war ended and the Polish soldiers went home, he retired to a zoo in Scotland where he lived out the rest of his life.
Even much later in life, when he was visited at the zoo by veterans, he would respond to the Polish language by sitting up to ask for a cigarette.
I don’t like zoos or heavy munitions or smoking, but I think Voytek was alright.

yeah, I love this bear! I heard tell of former soldiers sneaking into the zoo to throw him cigarettes and booze.
As for favorite man-killers, my heart is still with Tatiana, and not just because I am the proud new owner of a sweatshirt in homage to her wild spirit:)

Tiffany, I think that if you ever have children, they should be named Voytek and Tatiana. Both are very strong names.

And oddly enough both Russian???
Is this some way to make them more endearing to AuntieBeth? You can take my two russian soldiers and teach them grace through Tchaikovsky ballets?
