More Feline Sentimentality…
posted September 5th by donovan
This white kitten belongs to me and my girlfriend. Becka (gf) found her in Italy by the side of a busy road and they instantly hit it off. Her name is Cino (chee-no) and she is deaf and very sweet/precocious. She is in Delaware now at Becka’s parent’s house, but she will be here in Alameda soon. I hope she remembers us like Christian remembered his friends…

Cooking with dog
posted September 4th by tarbot
This dog (who has no name I could find) teaches you how to make delicious Japanese food. He is very detailed and encouraging and has a slightly robotic voice that is very hypnotizing to the tarbot. He doesn’t actually handle the food but has his human demonstrate the techniques. Please enjoy “Cooking with Dog- How to make Macha Kudzu Mochi”

Teenagers please!
posted September 3rd by prof. fancy pants
Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) shows an accumulation and subsequent loss of gray matter, the cells used for processing information, along time in this image. The reason this is interesting is because as teenagers lose gray matter, they begin to gain cognitive abilities. The write up of this research at Harvard Magazine claims that neural reorganization is the culprit. Many scientists think fMRI lacks the rigor of other methods of imaging.
Is the reorganization of gray matter to white matter really the cause of an increase in cognitive abilities or are these dudes full of it?

Question #366 WSB
posted September 3rd by Joe
In the comments of a recent post Dannikins sent a link to this page http://www.ashejournal.com/index.php?id=32
I will admit that I have completely hated the William S. Burroughs books and short stories I have read. I had pretty much written him off as someone I would read only if I had already read all Phillip K. Dick books twice.
My question is: Does Burroughs actually have some good books or are they all just junkie ramblings?
Bonus: What are they? It seems like at least “My Own Business” might be worth giving a read.

e.e. 46 years later

It has been 46 years since the death of Edward Estlin Cummings. He pretty much rocked the party. How can a writer seem so groundbreaking while actually being so damn trad?
Can you think of any other examples?
BONUS: ee’s third wife was a real babe.

the road to obama’s presidency
posted August 28th by greg

tonight Obama gives probably the hardest speech that anyone is going to give in a long time. he has a history of making good speeches, so there is anticipation , especially considering his LAST national convention speech, the one that put him on the map (last episode of seinfeld anyone?). He has a lot to accomplish in it. he arguably has to keep changing tone and targets. its a daunting task. I do believe he will deliver for the most part.
Today, i would love to celebrate this momentous occasion by celebrating figures who worked tirelessly to demonstrate that strong black men can succeed in positions of authority. In “A Very Serious Picture” we celebrate Star Trek’s Deep Space Nine’s Captain Benjamin Sisko. Sisko played a major positive role in the Federation’s victory in the Dominion War and the establishment of Bajor as a critical planet in the history of the Federation. To you Ben, baseball lover, Defiant Commander, and all around great fictional guy, WE SALUTE YOU!!

Question #362 Categories
posted August 27th by phil
I’m sorry if I asked this before, I may have, I don’t remember.
Someone really smart once said that there are kinds of people in the world: the ones who think you can divide people into two groups and the ones who think you can’t.
What are the two kinds of people in the world?
BONUS QUESTION: Which kind are you?

Hypnosis anyone?
posted August 27th by DirtyDanSin
My apologies to Phil and everyone for the delay in video posting today. It is truly my pleasure to move that damn tree man pic down the page. I hate that pic.
Yesterday we went to the CA State Fair. Hypnotist Terry Stokes did pretty much exactly the same show as last year but I always enjoy a stage hypnotist show. Does anybody here want to explain the real deal on how to hypnotize folks?
